SUMMARY:Topic: Generative AI (GenAI) in Higher Education Assessment: Opportunities\, Challenges\, and Future Directions
DESCRIPTION:14 Apr 20251:15 PM2:30 PM\nResearch Seminar\nGenerative AI (GenAI) in Higher Education Assessment: Opportunities\, Challenges\, and Future Directions\n\n\n\nWelcome to this research seminar series on Digital Transformations in collaboration with the Section for Higher Education Development. \nPresenter: Dr Julia Chen\, Associate Professor\, Hong Kong Polytechnic University.\nDate: April 14th\, 13:15-14:30 CET via Zoom \nAbstract:\nThe rise of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) is transforming higher education assessment. In response to the generally pragmatic approach of faculty and students at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University\, a multi-step GenAI-in-Assessment strategy has been implemented. This strategy is guided by two fundamental principles and five broad approaches designed to foster authentic learning and critical engagement with GenAI-generated content. \nThis talk will begin by outlining the GenAI-in-Assessment strategy\, showcasing examples of redesigned assessment tasks\, and highlighting key opportunities the strategy has created for the university community. Dr. Chen will then discuss emerging challenges\, such as cognitive offloading and over-reliance on specific GenAI tools\, and share strategies employed at both the institutional and course levels to address them. She will also explore longer-term considerations\, including the redefinition of learning and relevance in an AI-enhanced world and approaches to ensuring learning assurance. \nBy presenting these strategies and examples\, this session aims to provide the audience with actionable insights and generalizable best practices for integrating GenAI into higher education assessment effectively. \nTo register for the seminar\, please use the following URL: https://tinyurl.com/5n7zncj3 \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDr Julia Chen is the Director of the Educational Development Centre at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She is recently appointed as the Chair of the Hong Kong Teaching Excellence Alliance initiated by the HK University Grants Committee. A Principal Fellow of Advance HE (PFHEA)\, her research interests include leveraging technology in education\, using learning analytics for quality enhancement\, and English Across the Curriculum. She leads several large-scale multi-university projects\, including one on GenAI. Julia has won numerous awards: the HK University Grants Committee Teaching Award 2022 (team leader)\, QS Reimagine Education Awards 2022 Breakthrough Technology Innovation in Education Silver Prize\, EdTech Heroes Learning Experience Award 2023\, Paper Award in Learning Analytics 2022\, and twice her university’s President’s Award for Excellent Performance in teaching and service respectively. She has also been honoured with the lifetime designation of Distinguished Fellow by the Association for Writing Across the Curriculum in the USA. \n\nContact\n \n\n\nProfessor Marcelo Milrad \n\n+46 470-70 87 25\n+46 73-396 95 74\nmarcelo.milrad@lnu.se\n\n
