Stream 1: Identifying an educational problem and proposing a solution.
1) Please put forward a problem encountered in daily life related to School, Family, Community or Subject-learning, and clearly describe and explain how problems or needs affect life or learning. (No more than 200 words)/請提出一個日常生活遇到的與學校、家庭、社會或學科學習相關的問題,並清楚描述及解釋這問題或需要如何影響生活或學習。(不多於 200 字)

One common problem encountered in schools is the lack of clean and accessible restrooms. Dirty toilets can significantly affect student well-being and learning. When restrooms are unkempt, students may avoid using them, leading to discomfort, distractions, and even health issues. This situation can cause anxiety, especially among younger students, who may feel embarrassed or reluctant to ask for help.

The impact extends beyond individual discomfort; it can disrupt the entire learning environment. Students focusing on their need for a clean restroom may struggle to concentrate on their studies. Additionally, the stigma around dirty facilities can discourage students from participating in school activities that require prolonged attendance, such as sports or extracurriculars.

In a community context, inadequate restroom conditions can reflect broader issues of neglect and lack of resources. Addressing this problem not only improves hygiene but also fosters a more positive and inclusive atmosphere. Implementing solutions, like a smart toilet monitoring system, can enhance the overall school experience, ensuring that students feel safe and supported in their learning environment.

2) Please describe the solution and how to use Artificial Intelligence, computational thinking and computer programming technology. (No more than 200 words)/請描述解決方案及當中如何使用人工智能、運算思維及電腦編程技術。(不多於 200 字)

To address the issue of dirty school restrooms, we can implement a Smart Toilet Monitoring System using Artificial Intelligence (AI), computational thinking, and computer programming.

Solution Overview:

Sensors Installation: Equip toilets with sensors that detect cleanliness, soap levels, odors, and unflushed toilets. These sensors gather real-time data on restroom conditions.

AI Algorithms: Use AI to analyze the data collected by the sensors. Machine learning algorithms can identify patterns, determining when and where cleanliness issues arise most frequently.

Real-Time Notifications: When a problem is detected (e.g., low soap or a dirty toilet), the system sends instant alerts to custodial staff via mobile devices.

Data Visualization: Create a dashboard that displays cleanliness reports and trends over time. This allows school administrators to identify persistent problem areas.

Implementation:

Programming: Use languages like Python or JavaScript to develop the software that processes sensor data and sends notifications.
Computational Thinking: Break down the problem into manageable parts, such as sensor data collection, analysis, and alert systems, allowing for systematic problem-solving.
This solution not only enhances restroom hygiene but also encourages responsible maintenance through data-driven insights.

3)Please explain why the proposed solution is the best solution. (No more than 200 words)/請解釋為何提議的解決方案是最好的方案。(不多於 200 字)

The proposed Smart Toilet Monitoring System is the best solution for several reasons.

First, it leverages real-time data collection, allowing custodial staff to respond promptly to issues, ensuring that restrooms remain clean and well-stocked. This proactive approach minimizes the likelihood of students encountering dirty facilities, promoting a healthier school environment.

Second, by utilizing AI algorithms, the system can identify patterns in restroom usage and cleanliness, enabling schools to allocate resources more effectively. This data-driven insight helps address recurring problems, optimizing janitorial schedules and improving overall maintenance.

Additionally, the system fosters a culture of accountability and responsiveness within the school community. With immediate notifications, custodians are empowered to act quickly, enhancing student satisfaction and comfort.

Lastly, the implementation of technology demonstrates a commitment to innovation and student well-being. Schools that adopt such solutions not only improve hygiene but also create a more inviting learning environment, which can positively impact student performance and engagement.

Overall, the Smart Toilet Monitoring System combines efficiency, responsiveness, and data-driven management, making it a comprehensive solution to the persistent problem of unsanitary school restrooms.
