Section C: Project Details

Please answer the questions from the perspectives below regarding your project.
1.Problem Identification and Relevance in Education (Maximum 300 words)

As the founder of Galaxia, having experience of teaching in New Zealand's elementary school as well as studying in an international environment in the top institution at China--Peking University, we realised that there is an escalating demand for the need of learning Chinese. Particularly under the current circumstances that many netizens from the US rush in Chinese social media (Red Note) due to the previous prohibition of Tiktok and the immense tariff imposed on Chinese good which lead to increasing amount of the US nationals travelling and shopping in China.

After consulting the director of Confucius Institution for Moscow University and Free University of Berlin, i.e. the project consultant of Galaxia, we perceive that there is a there is a high demand for learning Chinese in foreign countries where people have low accessibility to learning Chinese, especially for interactive and gamified Chinese acquisition.

Therefore, the hypothesis of Galaxia is to enhance foreigners' Chinese acquisition through creating interactive teaching platform cater to learning diversity. With significant amount of market research conducted, and rich startup experience of the award-winning founders, supported by the Dean of School of Chinese of a second language in Peking University, Galaxia leverages cutting-edge technology in creating a gamified Chinese learning platform to users. This essentially manifests the high possibility of success in Galaxia, gathering professionals and experts, tackling the root cause of market pain point, connecting to users intuitively.

Galaxia, initiated by founders from Education degree who have high exposure to Chinese culture and rich experience in implementing student-centered teaching pedagogies, is an education project that target overseas countries. Fostering a higher Chinese acquisition rate, promoting Chinese culture and enhancing international competence of users. Galaxia offers a wide range of course packs catering to students of different levels, ages and backgrounds, maximizing students' learning effectiveness.

2a. Feasibility and Functionality (for Streams 1&2 only) (Maximum 300 words)

Selected Stream 3

2b. Technical Implementation and Performance (for Stream 3&4 only) (Maximum 300 words)

An online Chinese learning platform applying Large Language Model (LLM), employing speech and recognition functions is built for Galaxia.

The LLM serves as a users' Q&A bank which answers users' questions about Chinese culture, language and history. Throughout the establishment of the model, data has to be gathered and therefore key words can be recognised, and thus the model can be trained. This is a crucial selling point of Galaxia, which allows students to better acquire Chinese anytime anywhere.

At the meantime, Java will be used to build up the framework of Galaxia; SQL will be applied for backend user data storage; while Unity will be used for some of the interactive and engaging games throughout different courses offered by Galaxia.

The prototype of Galaxia's website, performing the basic aforementioned functions will be built within 4months, and further training and refinement will be done for the next 4months, compatibility test and further cyber security strengthening will be done for the next 4months.

These technological features and functions are significant in Galaxia's users learning process, boosting student's learning efficiency while enabling flexible and thorough Chinese acquisition among students--This empowers students as active learners and nurture their interest in Chinese language and culture. Especially catering to the geographical differences of Galaxia's users, this online learning platform serve as an immediate teacher to answers students' questions whenever they have any concerns before or after attending the courses. When there is the chatbox that students can ask for questions immediately, this enhances students' intrinsic motivation to learn Chinese and in the long run, polish their intercultural competence.

3. Innovation and Creativity (Maximum 300 words)

Compared to other existing competitors in the market, Galaxia’s product offers unique advantages.

Galaxia provides a flexbible platform to users to learn Chinese anytime, anywhere. The primary teaching format consists of recorded video lessons, enabling students to study using their devices at their convenience. This approach differs from traditional live online classes, as students do not need to schedule fixed class times, offering greater flexibility. Additionally, through Galaxia’s website and app, which feature an AI live-teacher chat room, students can ask questions to teachers any time, fostering students' learning efficiency with real-time academic support. Furthermore, for students who lack time to review full lessons, we provide condensed highlight videos to reinforce and consolidate key concepts.

Moreover, Galaxia’s teaching methods are essentially engaging and gamified that outweight other platforms. Online courses are tailored to students’ age and proficiency levels (e.g., beginners aged 6–9), with each course comprising 12 lessons of about 45 minutes each. To maintain learners’ focus, games or quizzes are inserted every 3–5 minutes to recap content and ensure comprehension. For younger students, lessons are delivered through simple skits to enhance fun and interactivity, moving beyond traditional lecture-style teaching. After class, students can further reinforce their learning through in-app games and quizzes. This integration of education and gamification is designed to boost learning effectiveness.

Galaxia’s video lessons and app features work together to maximize teaching efficiency. As mentioned, students can review materials through the self-study platform, which includes chatroom, games, lesson highlights, quizzes, and AI-powered tools such as pronunciation accuracy checks and writing assessments. This comprehensive approach covers all four key areas of Chinese language learning: reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.

4. Scalability and Sustainability (Maximum 300 words)

Through connections, implementation of go-to-market strategies such as online promotion and offline promotion, Galaxia ensures the solution is scalable and reachable to potential users around the globe thus meet increasing user demand. Some potential bottlenecks such as challenges in reaching out to EFL countries can be addressed by local connections with Chinese agencies and overseas Chinese.

By partnership and collaboration with organisations and local schools, through connections and promotion such as social media promotion and education exhibition around the world, Galaxia can better come into the eyesight of general public and particularly potential users who are interested in and have the need of learning Chinese.

Galaxia as an online learning platform, without using any paper teaching material is therefore environmentally friendly and sustainable. Galaxia fosters long-term user engagement through duplication of models in ESL and EFL countries based on the collaboration and users case in countries where English is the first language of citizens. This enables a faster growth of users thus a larger scale in the long term. As an educational platform, with surging demand of learning Chinese in foreign countries especially due to more connections are made between China and other countries, Galaxia leverages on this niche demand of Chinese learning gamification--Allowing users to learn Chinese in an engaging and interesting way, motivating users to enhance their Chinese proficiency in the long run.

5. Social Impact and Responsibility (Maximum 300 words)

Galaxia provides an exceptional online learning platform for foreigners to study Chinese.

First, Galaxia targets English-speaking K12 learners, addressing the younger generation's who are interested in learning Chinese. Our step-by-step curriculum helps them develop an early intuition for the language and build a strong foundation, preparing them for a globalized world.

Next, we will expand into other language markets and age groups, such as Spanish- and French-speaking learners, as well as teenagers, adults, and even elderly. Our ultimate goal is to provide the highest-quality learning platform for anyone worldwide who wishes to study Chinese, ensuring equal and accessible opportunities regardless of location or cultural background. The more people learn Chinese through our platform, the closer Galaxia comes to fulfilling its vision.

As society and technology evolve, Galaxia will continuously refine its teaching pedagogies and materials to deliver the most effective and up-to-date education. While we will enhance AI integration, we will never overlook the importance of human teachers, as language remains fundamentally a tool for human communication — the goal is still mastering practical Chinese proficiency.

With Chinese becoming more widely used globally, Galaxia will introduce additional courses, such as Chinese literature and cultural studies, to promote Chinese culture and foster cross-cultural exchange. However, these long-term goals will be achieved step by step.

In summary, Galaxia aims to increase the number of Chinese speakers worldwide while spreading appreciation for Chinese culture.
